The Community
Fishersgate's arson closed Community Centre, more usualy called The Dome
The community of Fishersgate is on the South Coast of the UK, in the county of West Sussex. It is mid-way between Brighton and Worthing. It is in the Adur Council district.
Always catagorised as 'deprived' the area is understandably lacking in confidence when it comes to it's own future. It is sad that too many people, including those who preport ot care about the local community spend time denegrating it and it's people to anyone who will listen. The people of Fishersgate deserve as much respect as the people of anywhere else.
The local community association, that I was involved with from 1989 until recently, is so interested in it's own affairs that it has lost sight of the people that it was formed to help. The first attempt at a community association was short lived in the 1970s, but was run by people who knew how to put the local people first.
I felt that the attitude was something that I could no longer be part of. Putting one's own interests before the greater good is something that no one in community office should indulge in.
There is so much hope for the future in Fishersgate. The Chiildren's Centre, The Healthy Living Centre and the newly merged Primary School, that it is a shame that some of those at the top of the community association have lost track of the idea that THE COMMUNITY MATTERS, NOT THEMSELVES!
I have been asked by many people if I will return to the community association. My answer is never whilst certain people are around!
